A tall brass trophy with real presence — nineteen inches from the base to the tips of the handles. The cup rises in a long, tapered urn shape from a turned, stepped foot, and the two handles sweep up and out into curled leaf tips, each one cast with a fine laurel pattern down the length. Across the front, in block engraving: Anthony J. Grossi Award.
The brass has gone soft and warm with age, bright in places and darkening in the hollows, with the scratches and small dents you'd expect from something that sat on a shelf for decades. It's the kind of piece that anchors a bookshelf or a mantel, and it does just as well holding dried stems, feathers, or brushes, as it does standing empty. It's a stunning piece of borrowed history.
Dimensions: 19" H x 10" W (at handles) x 6 1/4" W (at cup)
Medium: Brass
Age: Estimated mid-20th century (based on the form, engraving style, and wear)
Origin: Likely American (estimated from the trophy form and engraving)
Signature/mark: No maker's mark visible; front engraved: "ANTHONY J. GROSSI / AWARD"
Disclosures: Sold as-is in vintage condition. Please read carefully: one handle is separated at the lower joint where it meets the cup — the upper joint is solidly secured; there is also a slight wobble at the base and small dents to the body; the surface shows tarnish, darkening, spotting, and light scratching throughout, consistent with age and display (see photos); there is a small hole at the interior base of the trophy that would need to be sealed if looking to use for fresh floral display
