A peaceful flock at rest at the edge of a wide-open field. A horned ram stands watch against the dark hedgerow while the ewe settles into the grass with her lamb tucked close beside her. Behind them the land opens out to pale blue water and low hills, under a big sky full of soft summer clouds. The wool is painted with real care — warm creams and golds layered up so the fleece looks thick enough to touch — and a few cut logs and small white wildflowers fill in the foreground. Signed lower left, reading as Bullard. Housed in a deep, heavily ornamented gilt frame with an inner gold fillet that lifts the whole scene. A calm, classic piece that brings warmth to a dining room, entryway, or above a mantel.
