A small painting with a big personality. An older gentleman sits at a plain wooden table in a tavern, newspaper held up in both hands, wire spectacles slipped down his nose. He's caught mid-read, half-smiling, like he just found something worth telling you about. His brown felt alpine hat is pushed back, his cheeks are ruddy, and he wears a green wool vest over tan breeches with a dark jacket — classic Bavarian dress. The room behind him is soft and grey, so all the color lands on his face and his hands. The painter got the little things right: the crease in the paper, the shine on the lenses, the warmth in his skin. Set in a narrow gilt wood frame with honest wear.
