A charming and beautifully executed Rococo Revival genre scene depicting a gallant young gentleman assisting an elegantly dressed young lady across a rocky stream. She is dressed in a pink silk gown with a delicate lace fichu, her powdered hair adorned with ribbons and flowers; he wears a dark frock coat, pale knee breeches, and carries a matching pink parasol — a playful nod to courtly romance. The painting captures the spirit of Fragonard and Boucher with fluid brushwork and warm, luminous color.
Set in a richly carved and gilded gesso frame with acanthus leaf and scrollwork decoration throughout, the frame itself is a decorative statement piece.
