A quiet, graceful little portrait in a frame that steals the show. A young woman is shown in profile, wearing a black ribbon-trimmed bonnet, a black cape, and a crisp white collar at her throat. Her face is soft and calm, set against a misty gray background. The painting sits in a slim gilt-brass oval bezel, framed by an octagon of bone panels laid out like rays of sun, each separated by a fine dark line, and protected by convex glass. The panels show natural grain and gentle shifts in tone from cream to warm honey. The back is covered in fabric, with a fold-out easel to stand it up and a small ring to hang it. A sweet piece for a bookshelf, nightstand, or a grouping of small framed art.
